Astronomy

As a natural scientist i am interested in many fields of natural science besides Biology, especially in Physics because on one hand Amateur radio ist built on Physics and on the other hand i am interested in many aspects of astronomy.

I have a little telescope and watch the planets at night. Because of the light pollution of the region where i live it is not possible to really go deep into the sky with that teleskope.

Please try to keep light pollution low, because this is a real problem also for Astronomy scientists. Please dont use any outside lamps that are beaming upwards and avoid unneccesary lamps at all. Thank you.

A program that goes into the right direction is for instance the Flagstaff dark skies coalition in Flagstaff Az. that makes Flagstaff the worlds first "International dark sky community".

I am also interested in eclipses of the sun and the moon. I was lucky to be able to watch the total solar eclipse on August 11 1999. Here are some pictures i took of this eclipse with my Nicon F 301 SLR camera and a 500 mm mirror lense:

And another one a couble of seconds later:

One of the most interesting "eclipses" in this century was the Venus transit on June 8 2004. I was able to watch that incident in Frankfurt with the lens of the "Physikalischer Verein Frankfurt". The following pictures are taken fron their web side www.physikalischer-verein.de .

The first picture was taken in white light:

The second picture was taken in H Alpha light.

In the near future i will present pictures from the lunar eclipse November 8 to 9 2003.
